What is God's plan for you?

Dive deeper into the message with these discussion questions!

Week One — Rom. 8:28-31

General

- Have you ever experienced a “Now What?” moment, where you felt stuck, uncertain, or afraid about what to do next? What was that like?
Pastor Chip pointed out that modern Christianity often fixates on trying to “find” God’s next step for our lives. Why do you think we’re so drawn to wanting clear, specific answers?
- What’s the difference between trying to “find” God’s will and learning to “do” God’s will? Which one have you leaned toward more in your faith journey?
Our culture often talks about “living your best life.” How do you think that mindset has influenced your faith?
- What do you personally see as the ultimate goal or point of life? (Fulfillment? Purpose? Destiny? Success? Wealth? Something else?) How do you think that aligns with Scripture?
- Pastor Chip talked about “decision fatigue” because of the overwhelming number of choices we have every day. In what ways do you feel the pressure of constant decision-making in your life?
- Where have you seen Christianity subtly mixed with cultural values rather than shaped by God’s Word alone? How can you guard against “concocting Christ into culture”?
- Rom. 8:29 says we are “predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ.” How is that different from simply trying to craft our “best life”?

Take Home 1: God does have a plan for each of us, but part of it is far beyond our understanding, and we will not be privy to all that information in this life (Dt. 29:29)

  • Dt. 29 says “the secret things belong to the Lord.” How does knowing that some parts of God’s plan are hidden help or challenge you?
  • How can having faith in God’s sovereignty, even without knowing all the details, change the way you respond to “page 61—flight to Hong Kong” moments in life?
  • Pastor Chip shared the story of Dr. Bowdle’s response to suffering: “I don't understand this right now, but I know it is true.” How does his response speak to any difficult decisions or situations you’re facing?
  • Pastor Chip said, “The assurance we have is that God is working.” How does that shift the pressure you feel in decision-making?

Take Home 2: We must learn to move from trying to divine “what now?” and learn how to apply God’s Word to our lives with wisdom and discernment (Pr. 1:2-7)

  • According to Proverbs 1:2–7, wisdom and understanding come from fearing the Lord and knowing His Word. How does that change the way you think about decision-making?
  • Instead of obsessing over finding a specific next step, how can you grow in applying God’s Word to the situation right in front of you?
  • What is one step you could take this week to build wisdom and discernment into your life (prayer, community, Scripture study, mentorship)?
