Comfort KILLS (Part 1)
The first of a three-part event detailing the story of Jairus and the woman of faith.
In Part 1 of this three-part sermon series, we begin exploring one of the most powerful “sandwich stories” in the Gospel of Mark: Jairus pleading with Jesus to save his dying daughter, interrupted by the healing of a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years.
Jairus was a respected leader of the synagogue—a man accustomed to security, influence, and control. Yet when his daughter’s life hung in the balance, none of those comforts could save her. He could only fall at the feet of Jesus and believe.
Then, on the way to Jairus’s home, Jesus was delayed by an overwhelming crowd. Imagine Jairus’s fear and frustration as every passing moment appeared to bring his daughter closer to death. What felt like an obstruction was also a test of faith.
Life rarely unfolds according to our expectations. Like Jairus, many of us are comfortable relying on our position, possessions, routines, and sense of control. But sometimes Jesus leads us into discomfort—not to abandon us, but to deepen our faith. When worldly comforts can no longer sustain us, we learn what it means to depend completely upon Him.
