In week four of It's Who We Are, Pastor Chip gives us practical tools on how to confidently share our faith with others.
Dive deeper into the message with these discussion questions! Check out the Sharing your faith resource we also have below that can help you confidently share your faith to others.
General:
• “The most life-changing message that we could ever give to anyone is the message of Jesus.” Do you agree? Why or why not? How does this truth challenge or encourage you personally?
When it comes to sharing your faith, what thoughts or feelings come to mind? Does it excite you, intimidate you, or something else? What are some barriers, like fear or insecurity, that hold you back, and how can you address them?
Acts 17:22–34 describes Paul’s ministry in Athens. How did Paul adapt his message to connect with the leaders at the Areopagus, and what can we learn from his approach?
On a scale of 1 (low) to 10 (high), how confident are you in your ability to talk with others about the gospel? What would it take to move up a point or two?
If you haven’t been intentional about sharing your faith, how does this weekend’s sermon challenge or inspire you? Who are you praying for right now, asking God to create an opportunity for a conversation about Jesus?
What’s one specific step you can take this week to grow in the skill of evangelism? (Starting a conversation? Praying for someone? Sharing your testimony? Something else?)
Take Home 1: The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing
In your own words, what would you say is the ‘main thing’ about Christianity?
If the main thing is staying focused on Jesus, what are some things in your life—or the church—that can distract from that focus?
Pastor Chip says the church is called to ‘win the lost, equip the saints, and take care of those in need.’ Do you agree with this? How does this shape your understanding of what the church should prioritize?
Take Home 2: Our tone and demeanor in talking with people is of utmost importance (1 Pe. 3:15, 1 Tim. 2:23-24a)
Why do you think tone and demeanor are so critical when sharing the gospel?
How do you think others would describe the way you share your faith—with gentleness and respect, or with defensiveness? How do you balance confidence with humility in your tone?
Take Home 3: Have questions we have rehearsed that may open up a conversation
Why do you think asking thoughtful questions is such a powerful way to start a conversation about faith? What’s one question you might ask someone this week to open up a conversation?
What are some ways you can listen well and respond authentically after asking a question about someone’s beliefs or experiences?
Take Home 4: Have some answers to questions and/or statements from others that may create dialogue
Think about a recent conversation where someone asked you an everyday question. How might you have responded differently to steer the conversation toward faith or hope?
Pastor Chip encouraged us to have answers ready that reflect the gospel. What are some specific examples of answers you could give to common questions that reflect hope and lead to a spiritual conversation?
Take Home 5: Our testimony is the most important story we can tell
What’s your testimony? How has Jesus changed your life, and how have you seen Him at work in your life recently?
Why do you think your personal testimony is such a powerful tool for sharing the gospel? How does it reflect God’s character and faithfulness?
Take Home 6: Minimal facts
Why is it important to keep things simple when sharing the gospel? How can the ‘minimal facts’ approach make sharing your faith less intimidating?
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the idea of needing to know every detail or answer before sharing your faith? How does this “minimal facts” approach help ease that pressure?
Use this resource to help you confidently share your faith to others!
