Christ Shapes Us

In week 3 of Identity Crisis Pastor Michael Elliott reiterates taking off the old and putting on our new identity in Christ.

Dive deeper into this week's message with these discussion questions!

General:

  • What would you say shapes how you live your life?
  • Re-read Ephesians Chapter 4 and imagine Paul is writing these instructions directly to you. What do you hear? What stands out to you?
  • What things about you are indicative statements? And what do you do because of these things (imperative)?
  • Prior to this message, what would you say Scripture says who you are (indicatives) and what you should/must do (imperatives)?
  • Where in your life have you been told of having a blind spot? Or, as Pastor Michael addressed, where are your callouses?
  • In what area(s) in your life do you most reflect Jesus? In what areas do you desire to grow more in love with Jesus so you may reflect Him more?

Take Home 1: Our identity is determined by what Christ has done for us not by what we do (Gal 2:15-16)

  • Do you ever try to earn God’s favor?
  • Do you truly have faith in what Christ has done for you?
  • Does your identity come from what Christ has done for you? How so?

Take Home 2: We must allow the spirit of our mind to be renewed (Phil. 2:3-5)

  • What are you actively doing to renew your mind to be more like Christ?
  • What could a renewed mind look like for you?

Take Home 3: We must do some putting off and some putting on (Rom. 13:12-14)

  • What attributes of who you were before Christ still linger? What “old jacket” do you need to remove?
  • How can you live knowing that you are free?
